Click Proceed to create the bootable media. This ISO image is Linux-based. We strongly recommend creating a bootable media immediately after the first backup; if the operating system crashes, the only way to restore it from Acronis True Image backup is restoring from the bootable media.
The drive must have 4 GB or more of free space. For example, you can use an external hard drive or a USB flash drive. In the File menu, click Create Rescue Media. The Acronis Media Builder window opens.
Click Create Media. If the drive is not empty, Acronis True Image will ask you to confirm deleting all the data stored on the drive. To confirm, click Erase. When the progress is complete, disconnect the media and keep it in a safe place. You can store your own data on the media, but make sure that you do not delete or modify the Acronis boot files. We recommend that you create a new rescue media every time you upgrade your Mac OS X to a newer version.
Otherwise, your rescue media may not work properly. If you have Acronis Disk Director Use the media builder provided with Acronis Disk Director to create this media.

Installation issues are the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars, and the quality of customer service--superb--is the reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3.
My experience with their customer service reps was quite positive. One recommendation I would definitely encourage potential purchasers to heed, though, would be to go to the Acronis website, create an account there and activate the software before you try to install it. That way if you encounter any issues you can go online and live chat with one of Acronis' tech reps and they will work very diligently to get it installed on your computer.
I had the pleasure of working with one who spent over an hour with me and succeeded in getting the software and running perfectly. This SW comes with disk and license key.
It is the one time license, not the subscription with cloud services. I think it would be wise for Acronis to continue to offer both stand-alone and network based versions of this software to keep both customer bases satisfied.
This software installed perfectly and within 15 minutes, I had a complete image backup of all partitions on my solid state system drive. It successfully created a bootable rescue DVD.
Image backup was to external USB hard drive. Be sure to check all of the backup settings. I found that by default certain files were being excluded, among them the pagefile.
It is also important to define the type of backup, base or incremental, backup schedule, etc. On initial SW install, it informed me that an update was available. I chose not to install the update for fear it would be the subscription based version.
Now that I have a backup I can roll back to, I will download, install, and try the new version. I am also now confident to install software applications and let Windows update. A backup is computer engineering rule 1! This is a true image backup, not a file copy.
I have no idea what I did wrong, I signed up for the one year free cloud when I first signed up, and that expired. So, I changed backup to local on a removable hard drive. After the software popped up and said upgrade to upgrade to the "newest version" it says I am not authorized to use this software and I have to purchase a license. My backups became locked out and I could not find an option to roll back the software.
Why would I update software if I have to buy it all over again? This program does exactly what it claims. Backup, cloning, and image. My only concern is the privacy issue. Acronis seems to communicate with it's servers constantly. When checking open ports and task manager I see it's always there. This is not acceptable to me but other people may not mind this.
I just want a program that images, clones, and backups my drive without being married to it. Just my preference. I always try to limit what software is allowed to enter and leave my computer. So when a program requires access to the web I don't trust this type of program. I needed a copy of this to do a full system backup by partition of a new PC after installing and configuring the OS in order to use as an emergency rollback or restore point.
Getting the license on Amazon was the best option I could find ie: least expensive option. Acronis wanted twice as much to buy directly from them. I was using an SSD with virtual memory on system managed and it created a 10GB pagefile on the drives partition that True Image tried to back up.
I wanted to backup the drives partition, but not the pagefile. I got around this by disabling virtual memory on the SSD, restarting the PC, then formating the SSD in order to erase the pagefile prior to backing it up. Then you can do your backup, save a few GB of space, and then just turn virtual memory back on after you complete the backup. Better to be safe than sorry. I also recommend validating your backups upon creation.
It only takes a few minutes to do, and it gives you a bit more assurance. Acronis performed a clone of my C drive to a new SSD. My computer started up with the new SSD and all programs functioned without modification. If you move the entire "Users" folder to the D drive, Windows will not be able to update but you can move documents, pictures, music and videos without interfering with updates. Everything worked.
